Abu Dhabi Airport closed due to heavy fog; 15 flights diverted

Heavy fog conditions in the early hours of Monday has
wreaked havoc on air travel at Abu Dhabi International Airport, with
Etihad Airways confirming it has diverted 15 of its flights to various
airports in the region.
The airport’s flight live ticker spells out a similar story, indicating several delays and diversions in the morning flights.
The airport closed at 7.30am.
The Abu Dhabi-based carrier in question said: “Etihad Airways flights to and from Abu Dhabi have been disrupted this morning by the closure of Abu Dhabi Airport due to severe fog.
“Following the closure of Abu Dhabi Airport due to fog, at 7.30am, the airline diverted 15 inbound flights to five other airports in the region – Dubai World Central, Sharjah, Muscat, Al Ain and Bahrain.”
The statement continued: “Other inbound flights have been delayed, and departures from Abu Dhabi will be affected. We are working to minimise disruption to guests.”
Passengers are being advised to contact the Etihad call centre for more information on their flight status.
Heavy fog has been reported in parts of Abu Dhabi on Monday, with the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology reporting that visibility was reduced to 50m in parts of the capital, near the airport, Yas Island, Liwa and other internal parts.
