Samsung Is Working On A Mind Blowing 11K Smartphone Display

Ask a purist (or even better, Apple) and and the answer you’ll get is that a 1080p display is more than enough for a smartphone. However, it seems that for Samsung even 4K just isn’t enough, which is why it is teaming up with 13 companies and the South Korean govt. to make a mind-blending, stomach-turning 11K display.

he Korean Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning has already decided to invest $26.5 million into this new moonshot. The display will have a stunning 2250 ppi pixel density. (For the record, the Galaxy S6 stands at ‘just’ 577 ppi.) We hardly think that the consortium will stop there.

More importantly, it can create an illusion of a 3D display, without the need of special glasses, which is quite understandable. Why? “Because 11K is able to show screen colors in detail.”
It is someone’s guess how this particular 3D will sit well with general public, because as history tells with Nintendo, Amazon and various 3D-smartphones, 3D displays can actually be quite troublesome. There is quite a bit of time for nixing out these flaws, though. The prototypes will likely reach completion by 2018, for the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

Right now, the most you can get in a smartphone is a quad-HD (2K) screen and even in televisions, things max out at 8K however, at this pace you never know what will happen next. While most will feel that this is a mere overkill mainly for number-crunching, you can’t deny that it will be coming anyway.
